Benevolent society assists school of the psychically challenged

Winneba, (C/R) July 29, GNA – The Akwantufo Welfare Club, a benevolent society in Winneba, has donated 50 school uniforms and sanitary items to some psychically challenged pupils at the Father John Memorial School at Winneba.

Elder C. C. Mills-Robertson and Mr Kobina Ebo Annan, president and patron respectively of the club, made the presentation at a ceremony at the school’s premise.

They said the donation formed part of the club’s humanitarian and social responsibility towards the upkeep of the vulnerable in society.

According to them, last year they renovated the Effutu Municipal Hospital Children’s Ward, provided 90 school tables and chairs to the Effutu Municipal Primary School and donated some food items and second hand clothing to the Gomoa Fetteh Orphanage.

They appealed to parents to invest in the education of their children, the future leaders of the nation.

Mr Charles Afenya Mantey, Effutu Municipal Special Education Co-ordinator, who deputized for the Municipal Education Director, and the Reverend Father Abeka Mensah in-charge of the Winneba Catholic Church on behalf of the Church, received the items.

They expressed their gratitude to the club for assisting the children.

Mrs Comfort Ahiameny, acting Unit Head of the School, appealed to the authorities to help fence the school to prevent people from using the compound as a thoroughfare.

He said that practice disrupted the teaching and learning.
