Bende- Royal donates educational materials to Apantam community

Nsawam, July 19, GNA - Bende-Royal Foundation International, a non-governmental organisation, at the weekend donated assorted educational items, valued at 10,000 dollars to Apantam community kindergarten school, near Aburi in the Akuapem South Municipality. The materials, which comprised 20 chairs, four tables, four blackboards, bundles of second hand dresses and toys were donated by the headquarters of the organisation in Denmark, which is putting up the school at the cost of GH¢7,000. Mr Bernard Kwabena Blessing, Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation said the kindergarten block, which started in January was almost completed.

He said the donation was in fulfilment of a promise the organisation made about three months ago, when the chiefs and people called for assistance. Mr Blessing said the Foundat ion was committed to poverty alleviation and therefore offers assistance to any community that initiate projects to improve the living standards of the people. Mr Kingsford Okatah, Project Officer of the school block said the Member of Parliament for the area, Mr O.B. Amoah supported the venture with 20 bags of cement and two bundles of roofing sheets. Receiving the items on behalf of the community, Mrs Stella Nanor, Municipal Director of Education, expressed happiness for the donation and the provision of the kindergarten facility. She said government alone could not provide the social amenities of the people, hence the need for communities to mobilise and start to do something for themselves. Mrs Nanor urged landowners to give out lands to the educational authorities so that they could liaise with the district assemblies to demarcate and fence them for future use. She said education was not just putting up school structures but the essence of parents to play a role by supplying the educational needs of their children. The Director called on the people to develop the culture of maintenance, by taking good care of the school building to prolong its lifespan.
