Bawku is a ghost town

The raging conflict in Bawku in the Upper East Region has turned the bustling business community into a ghost town.

Intensive shooting, which erupted last Friday afternoon, had scared a number of people, compelling them to stay indoors and this has affected the brisk business often witnessed on market days.

Chief Superintendent Tefourtor Kaletsi, Bawku Divisional Police Commander, has told the Ghana News Agency that security personnel are yet to unravel the cause of the shooting incident and have therefore intensified their patrols to avoid the escalation of violence.

He said the situation is now under control and two persons have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Last Tuesday night, gunshots were heard in Bawku town resulting in one death and one injury.
