Bawku East Assembly Battles Polythene Litter

Bawku (U/E), Oct 22, GNA- The Bawku East District Assembly (BEDA) has procured 30 large litterbins at a cost of 33 million cedis in a bid to curb the indiscriminate littering of plastic polythene and rubbish in the township.

The District Sanitation Officer would therefore put any offender who violates the sanitation byelaws of the assembly before the law courts. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Bawku the District Environmental Officer, Mrs Elizabeth Nyabase, said measures had been taken to rid the town of filth that had engulfed it.

She said the litterbins would be placed at vantage points and along the principal streets to enhance environmental cleanliness.

Mrs Nyabase said her outfit had embarked on a house-to-house exercise to ensure that people adhere to sanitation byelaws.

She suggested the setting up of special courts to try sanitation offences.
