Basic Education Certificate now entry requirement for hairdressers

Saltpond (C/R), Dec 31, GNA - Miss Josephine Benin, Central Regional Vice President of Ghana Hairdressers and Beauticians Association (GHABA), has said that henceforth the basic entry qualification for hairdressing apprenticeship would be basic education certificate.

She said this decision had been taken to prevent misapplication of chemicals, which could cause a lot of problems including death and appealed to women to patronise only qualified hairdressing services. Addressing the passing out for 18 apprentices after a two-year training at Saltpond, Miss Benin who is also the President of the Mfantseman District branch of the Association, appealed to district assemblies to enact by-laws to protect tradesmen and women in the districts from the activities of their colleagues who had migrated to the cities and urban towns centres during festivals.

She pointed out that it was during festivals that tradesmen and women in rural areas got jobs to enable them earn and contribute towards the development of their communities.

Miss Benin said if they should compete for jobs with their counterparts who had been making a lot of money in the cities during festivals, they would not been able to make any money to enable them pay their taxes and development levies.

It would also compel them to also migrate to the cities to operate to the disadvantage of rural dwellers. Nana Kwa Bonko III, Chief of Biriwa, spoke on HIV/AIDS, the mode of infection, management and care and support for people living with the disease.

Mr Frank Neequaye, Presiding Member of the District Assembly who chaired the function advised the trainees to abide the rules and regulations of the Association and to pay their taxes and other tolls to District Assembly regularly.
