Barclays Eagle Open At Damang

Mr. Kobina Quansah, Managing Director of Barclays Bank of Ghana will lead a six-man team of top level Management Personnel of the Bank to participate in a sponsored golf tournament the Barclays Eagle Open at the refurbished 18-hole international Golf Course at Damang on Sunday, November 16, 2003.

The course now upgraded to an 18-hole facility, the fifth in the country was commissioned last August, 2003 by the Deputy Sports Minister, Mr. Joe Aggrey.

In Mr. Quansah's team for the weekend's trip will be Mr. Alhassan Andani, Corporate Director, Mr. Kofi Asimenu and Mr. Peter Iliasu both Senior Corporate Managers, Mr. Steve Opon, Senior Marketing Manager and Mr. Solomon Agyemfira, Community Support/Protocol Officer.

The annual Barclays Sponsored tournament will feature golfers from host club Golden Club of Damang, Ankobra, Benso, and Tarkwa.

Sammy Azumah, winner of the 2001 edition of the tournament, Alex Boonzaaier of Tarkwa, Sid Steyn and Gyedu Nketiah, both of Garden Club, Willie Ampae, R. Koomson, B. Timmer, Evans Awah and K. Kannigan all crack golfers will participate in the competition.

The ladies section will also bring on course Georgina Hararaka, Mary Kannigan, Stephanie Mensah among others.

The Damang Golf Course, the fifth in the Western Region, with its island green, is considered one of the most challenging courses.

Expectations are that very brilliant scores would be returned.

The Barclays team which is making its third trip since the inception of the competition is however hopeful of having a good game.
