Balungu community cries for help.

Balungu (UE), May 30, GNA - Mr. Edward Abesiwine Asekere, Assemblyman for Balungu Electoral Area, in the Bongo District at the weekend appealed for residential accommodation for health workers in the district.

According to him, the existing accommodation facilities were woefully inadequate resulting in congestion thus compromising the privacy of workers which did not promote hard work. The Assemblyman further appealed to the District Director of health service to post a midwife to the Balungu Chip Centre. He made this call at a victory rally to thank the electorates for electing him to the assembly. Mr. Asekere called on Government, the World Bank, NGOs, Water Aid and other relevant institutions to provide potable water to the people of Galamgru, Atokila, Abagiretua, Abeo-Doone among others to help ease the water problem and fight water borne diseases. He said open defecation and its associate health problems due to lack of household toilets and poor sanitation were major problems confronting the area. Mr Asekere appealed to benevolent organizations to provide household latrines for some communities in Balungu which did not benefit from the previous consignment. He said the Zorko-Feo road remained a death trap to motor riders and vehicle users and called on the District Assembly and Feeder Roads Department to reshape the road that stretches from the market square linking to Zorko=96Feo. The assemblyman encouraged all the various Women Groups in Balungu to continue to mobilize themselves and open savings accounts with the Bongo Rural Bank to enable them access loans to empower themselves economically.

He advised the youth to desist from all negative social vices such as drugs, alcoholism and tasked them to make use of the educational facilities made available to them by government to educate themselves and engage in businesses that would bring development to the area. 3
