BAK District spends 187 million cedis on pupils and teacher trainees

Kuntanase (Ash), Feb. 24, GNA - The Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District Assembly has since 2000, spent about 187 million cedis as busaries for Junior Secondary School pupils and on teacher trainees. Mr Bright Addai Mununkum, the District Chief Executive who disclosed this said it showed the importance government attached to education.

Speaking at the President's end- f-year party for school children in the district at Kuntanase on Thursday he said, the assembly spent 106 million cedis as bursaries for brilliant but needy students in Junior Secondary schools in the district.

An amount of 81 million cedis, he said, was also spent on teacher trainees from the district as allowances.

Mr Addai Mununkum cautioned the children not to allow themselves to be lured by people wishing to use them as child labourers and thereby drop from school and warned those who use the services of children to work for them to stop since it was a punishable offence.

Mrs Gladys Asamani, the District Director of Education cautioned schools in the district, which excelled in last year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) not to be complacent but work harder to enhance higher laurels.

She lauded the head teachers for the performance of the district in the BECE last year, which enabled the district to place 23rd nation-wide and fifth in Ashanti.

Mr Asamani therefore, called for closer collaboration between School Authorities, School Management Committees (SMCs), Parent-Teacher Association (PTAs) and stakeholders in education for the adoption of strategies that would help improve upon the standard of education in the district.
