Ayensu Cassava farmers calls for concessionary interest rates on loans

Awutu Bawjiase (C/R), Oct 11, GNA- The Ayensu Cassava Farmers Association (ACFA) has suggested that the government and the Bank of Ghana (BOG) must give special " concessionary interest rates" on loans granted to farmers for agricultural purposes.

Such assistance, they said will go a long way to sustain the interest of men and women who have already accepted the challenge to make farming their profession.

This was a decision arrive at a meeting, which leaders of the association met with Mr Samuel K Dodd, National Chairman of the association at Bawjiase on Saturday, as part of the activities marking this year's World Food Day celebration.

Mr Dodd said high interest rates on loans to farmers have proved disincentives to them.

He said it is about time government in collaboration with the central bank introduced special concessionary interest rates, which would bring relief to farmers. Mr Dodd appealed to the government to solicit for grants from donor agencies and other financial organisations to help members of the ACFA transport their produce to the factory site at Bawjiase at minimum cost.
