Ayariga hails Nanumba North for excellent results in BECE

Bimbilla (N/R), Dec. 10, GNA - The Nanumba North District in the Northern Region, placed 8th in the National League Table of District Performance in the 2011 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) out of 163 districts in the country.

The Deputy Minister of Education; Mr Mahama Ayariga who is on a tour of the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions hailed the district at a durbar of stakeholders in education in Bimbilla the district capital.

He encouraged all districts in the Northern Region to emulate the sterling example of Nanumba North, which in spite of having the same challenges as the rest of the region have been able to perform well nationally.

Mr Ayariga said the performance of the district indicates that every area in the region can also make it.

He said a taskforce is touring the three regions to discuss the factors that contribute to the poor performance of pupils in the BECE because government is committed to reverse the negative and dangerous trend.

Mr Ayariga said government would do whatever it takes to let failures of the BECE become a thing of the past because the future of the nation depends on the education children receive today.

The Deputy Minister who is leading the taskforce toured Nanumba South, Gonja East and Kpandai Districts.

District chief executives, directors of education, teachers and pupils committed themselves to take all the steps needed to reverse the abysmal performance at the BECE.

The stakeholders identified specific local challenges that work against the performance of the pupils and agreed on strategies to combat the trend.

The Education Oversight Committees of the various districts accepted the challenge to bring their districts up in the BECE results in future.
