Atwima district NADMO donates to victims

Nkawie (Ash), Sept 29, GNA- The Atwima District Assembly and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have distributed relief items worth 50 million cedis to some communities that were hit by rainstorms.

The items included bags of cement, roofing sheets, blankets and student mattresses.

The communities were Asuofua. Adiembra, Sreso-Timpom, Adankwame, Nkawie-Panin and Anhwiafutu.

Ten disaster volunteer groups in the district were also presented with Wellington boots and cutlasses.

Making the presentation, Mr Charles Yeboah, Atwima District Chief Executive, urged communities to cultivate the habit of planting trees around their houses and government buildings to minimise the spate of disasters.

He said the assembly would not spare anybody who pollutes rivers and streams and engage in illegal tree felling in the district and appealed to communities to be vigilant and report such cases. Mr Osei Amponsah, the Ashanti Regional NADMO Co-ordinator, advised disaster volunteer groups to nurse cocoa and teak for commercial purposes to generate money to support their activities.
