Atwima District Assembly blacklists three CBOs

Nkawie (Ash), Oct. 14, GNA - The Atwima District Assembly has blacklisted three Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) operating in the district for their poor performance. They are, The Local Council of Churches, Combat Readiness and Young Attackers Club Fighting Against HIV/AIDS.

Mr Opoku Fofie Apraku, Atwima District Focal Person on HIV/AIDS, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Nkawie on Monday, said the three groups were given 24 million cedis each as their first instalment of funding but they performed badly. He said other CBOs and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) that were enjoying funding for their programmes on the pandemic would be sanctioned if they were found to be performing poorly.

Mr Apraku noted that the disease was proving to be the nation's most deadly enemy and cautioned that any group that would misappropriate funds meant for fighting the disease would similarly be dealt with. He said the HIV/AIDS programme was one of the most expensive advocacy programmes and urged all stakeholders to get actively involved. Mr Apraku urged them to show utmost seriousness and the attention needed to fight the disease in the district.
