The Senior Assistant Registrar at the University of Cape Coast, Emmanuel Aidoo, has underscored the need for graduates to uphold strong moral values while developing the essential skills required to succeed in the 21st century.
He explained that values are the beliefs and ideals that guide individuals in deciding what is right and good, and that these must form the foundation of character and success.
According to him, qualities such as honesty, integrity, respect, empathy, responsibility, and fairness are inseparable from one’s values and should guide every action and decision.
“Wherever you find yourself, if you truly want to make your yourself proud, be guided by these principles,” he stated.
“Our relationships, reputation, and achievements are built on these values.”
He made these remarks during the 2nd National Graduation and Awards Ceremony of Morgan International Community School.
Aidoo noted that values help create an inclusive and respectful environment where everyone feels valued and supported.
He added that values also help create relationships within and outside the workplace.
He drew attention to the fast-changing world driven by technology and social media, warning that ignoring their influence could place the future of children and society at risk.
“If these are not properly monitored, the world’s future is being endangered,” he cautioned.
Beyond moral principles, Aidoo emphasised that attitude and 21st-century skills are key to thriving in today’s world. These include learning and innovation skills, digital literacy and career and life skills, along with creativity, critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving.
He concluded by encouraging students and teachers to uphold their values, maintain discipline and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
