Assemblyman arrested for boat theft

Koforidua, Jan. 6, GNA - The Assemblyman for Akwamufie, Mr Akoto Duodu, is helping the Police in their investigations into the theft and sale of the 50-seater aluminium boat belonging to the Akwamufie Community to the Akosombo Continental Hotel.
A Police source briefing newsmen on the crime situation in the Eastern Region during the Christmas and New Year period at Koforidua on Tuesday, said Nana Ansah Okamehene and Nana Brawa Kwabena, both chiefs at Akwamufie on December 20, 2003, lodged the complaint with the Police and Duodu was arrested.
The Source said a 29-year-old Nigerian, John Christopher, is in Police custody over his alleged defilement of an eight-year-old girl in the bush at Wurapong, near Obawale, in the Yilo Krobo District on Boxing Day.
According to the source, the victim who was rushed to Oterkpolu Police Station with blood oozing from her genitals, claimed that Christopher allegedly lured her into the bush at about 1000 hours where he defiled her.
It said the victim was rushed to the Koforidua Regional Hospital for treatment while the suspect was arrested and placed in Police custody.
The source said a farmer at Obenyame, near Oterpkolu in the Manya Krobo District, Israel Lartey, was also helping the Police over the death of Tettey Tei, 15, following alleged assault on him by Lartey on Boxing Day.
It said Tetteh was rushed to the Oterkpolu Police Station on Boxing Day by his father, Mr Kwasi Tettey with swollen left eye and bruises all over the body and reported that he was assaulted by Lartey while cutting acacia twigs on the latter's farm.
Tetteh, who was given a Police medical form was admitted at the Atua Government Hospital and was discharged after three days but died on the fourth day.
The body has been deposited at the Koforidua Regional Hospital morgue for autopsy.
