Assemblyman appeals for repair of road

Keseve (V/R), Oct. 31, GNA - The Assemblyman of the Agave Electoral Area, Mr Gatsola Afianu has appealed to the government and the South Tongu District Assembly to quickly repair the 25.5 kilometre Kodzi-Asidowhui-Agave-Agbeve feeder road. Making the call through the GNA at Keseve in the South-Tongu District at the weekend, Mr Afianu said the road, which linked more than 100 villages in four electoral areas to the Aflao-Accra highway had deteriorated beyond imaginable levels, affecting trading and economic activity of the people.

He said many drivers had stopped plying the route while the few who did were charging 20,000 cedis per passenger or 30,000 cedis on rainy days instead of the 8,000 cedis stipulated fare. "The areas are at times cut-off after heavy down pours, making it impossible for traders to cart their wares to marketing centres outside thus putting Assembly members and other opinion leaders in the area under stress", he said. He recounted how a few days ago a group of mourners and their sympathizers got their vehicle stuck in the mud between Dzebetato and Dzebenu along the route and had to carry the casket containing the body five kilometres to the funeral ground. Mr Afianu also suggested the tarring of the road to make it durable and to enable the fresh water fish, including oyster and also handicrafts, the main produce of the people, get to the marketing centres with ease.
