Assembly to investigate disparities in BECE performance

Obuasi, April 27, GNA - The Obuasi Municipal Assembly has set up a three-member committee to investigate the reasons that have led to good performance of private schools in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the municipality.

The Committee is made up of Mr Francis Boatey Quao, the Chairman of the Finance and Administration Sub-committee of the assembly, Mr Kwadwo Gyimah of the Municipal Directorate of Education and Mr Emmanuel Kofi Antwi, the Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) as member-secretary.

The assemblyman for New Nsuta-JJ, Mr John Sackey expressed regret that some public school teachers openly comment that whether they went to school or not they would be paid at the end of the month. Nana Asirifi Asare 11, the Presiding member, urged the assembly members to avoid partisan interest during meetings and to provide the right inputs to bring maturity to bear on the assembly. He said irresponsible attitude of most residents continued to create unsanitary conditions in some parts of the municipality and appealed to the assembly members to play active roles to ensure sound sanitation.
