Assembly threatens to terminate contracts

Nkawie (Ash), Dec 15, GNA- The Atwima District Assembly has threatened to terminate the contracts of "lazy contractors" as well as those who delay on execution of projects.

Mr Charles Yeboah, the District Chief Executive said the behaviour of some contractors in the district was doing harm to the district and the government.

He was addressing the third meeting of the assembly at Nkawie last Friday.

He said about 90 percent of feeder roads in the district had been awarded on contract but regretted that most of the contractors had not even started work on them while those who working were doing shoddy work.

Mr Yeboah said the assembly will no longer entertain those contractors but will deal only with the committed ones.

He said the assembly exceeded its revenue target of 1.3 billion cedis, by collecting 1.4 billion cedis at the end of October, this year. The DCE said 687 million cedis out of the revenue had been spent on construction of schools, clinics and the district court complex. Mr Yeboah said out of the estimated 380 million cedis stool land revenue, the assembly collected 722 million cedis.

He attributed this to the good work of the assembly's task force and commended them for the good work done.
