Assembly receives 400 million cedis to support HIS

Tawiakrom (Ash), July 16, GNA - The government has released 400 million cedis to support the Atwima District Assembly to set up its Health Insurance Scheme (HIS).

Mr Charles Yeboah, District Chief Executive, who said this at a durbar held in his honour at Tawiakrom in Ashanti, called on the people to embrace the scheme by paying their contribution of 30,000 cedis promptly to enable it to take off.

Mr Yeboah said the government would continue to increase farmers' bonuses and the price of cocoa every year to encourage them to produce more.

He said the District Assembly had received 1,000 bags of fertilisers to be distributed to cocoa farmers in the district on credit and, therefore, urged farmers to take advantage and patronise them for increased cocoa yield.

Mr Ernest Appiah-Ansah, Assembly Member for the Area, appealed to the government to rehabilitate the Bayerebon-Tawiakrom feeder road to enable drivers who have withdrawn their services to the area to resume work.

He said with assistance from the Department for International Development (DFID) of the United Kingdom, the people of Tawiakrom have built a block of four classrooms.

The Assembly Member, however, said they were now left with the plastering of the block and called on the Assembly to provide the community with some bags of cement to complete the project.
