Assembly members withdraw petition for the removal of DCE

Nyinahin (Ash), Nov. 26, GNA - Eighteen assembly members in Atwima-Mponua who signed a petition for the removal of the District Chief=

Executive, Mrs Theresa Adomako-Tawiah, have said they would no longer pre= ss ahead with the "no-confidence vote." They have consequently withdrawn the petition. Mr Joseph Hamlet Osei, the Presiding Member, announced this to a thunderous applause at an emergency meeting of the assembly at Nyinahin t= o approve the annual estimates. The 18, on November 10, signed a formal request to begin the process= of "no-confidence vote" to oust the DCE. This did not go down well with the youth in the area, who responded with a street demonstration to register their displeasure. Mr Osei praised the group for the decision to enable the assembly to=

move forward in peace and unity. The Local Government Act gives power to the assemblies to remove metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives with a two-thirds majority vote. Mrs Adomako thanked the 53-member assembly and pledged to continue t= o welcome constructive criticism and suggestions. She called for a united front to increase the pace of development of the district. 26 Nov. 09
