Assembly Common Fund deductions affecting development in Tamale

Alhaji Abudulai Haruna Friday, Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tamale, on Tuesday complained that, deductions from the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF), was affecting the implementation of projects in the area.

He called on Government to reduce deductions being made from the Fund, to ensure the completion of development projects in the metropolis.

Alhaji Friday made the call at the general sitting of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly in Tamale, at which assembly members took stock of the assembly’s performance in 2011, and planned for this year.

He called on revenue authorities to initiate measures to improve revenue collection in the metropolis.

Alhaji Friday appealed to the people to observe hygiene to keep them healthy, and commended Zoomlion Company Limited and the assembly for collaborating to keep Tamale and its environs clean.

He said: “Although the Assembly has taken steps to manage indiscipline in the metropolis such as selling on walkways, packing at unauthorized places and building at unauthorized areas, some people do not support the assembly.”

Alhaji Friday said the Metropolitan Security Committee, Chiefs and the securities agencies have worked collectively to ensure peace in the area.

“The assembly has worked on the traffic lights and streetlights, which has lead to a reduction in criminal activities”, he said.

Alhaji Friday said the assembly has rehabilitated school blocks, constructed one teachers’ bungalow, health center for the Vittin community.

He said the assembly spent GHc 1.3 million on the rehabilitation of a 42-kilometer road and construction of underground drains and culverts.

Alhaji Friday said 32 communities had benefited from water projects, which involved pipe extension, building of hand dug well and rain harvesting thanks. **
