Ashanti TEWU-TUC intensifies strike action, warns members to comply

The Ashanti regional council Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has declared its full support to the national
Executives' indefinite strike which takes effect today Friday, September 19, 2025.

The industrial action will affect members across technical and public universities, the Ghana Library Authority and the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB).

Addressing the media in Kumasi, Emmanuel Abeiku Aggrey, the industrial relations officer in the Ashanti region said the strike has become inevitable following the government’s failure to address long-standing concerns of non-teaching staff, despite exhausting all laid-down procedures.

According to him the union had exercised patience and restraint over the matter, warning that any attempt to intimidate its members will amount to an unfair labour practice.

It will be recalled that on September 8, it served official notice of the strike, citing persistent delays in finalising and signing conditions of service agreements.

After which repeated engagements and follow-ups with management and relevant authorities have yielded no results, leaving members frustrated.

They, however pleaded with the various heads of institutions to respect the decision of the union

"We are sending a strong message to our members across board, especially those in the Ashanti region to comply with this directive. We are also urging the heads of the various institutions to as a matter of urgency stop intimidating our members".
