Ashanti Regional Chapter Committee of Lands Commission Inaugurated

Kumasi, April 21, GNA - The Lands Commission on Monday inaugurated a six-member Chapter Committee of the Ashanti Regional Lands Commission in Kumasi to help manage land efficiently and to contribute towards the socio-economic development of the country. Mr. John Osei Sarpong, National Chief Lands Officer of the Commission, said the committee was to ensure effective and efficient administration and management of public and other lands through a robust Lands Service Delivery.

He said the committee would also advise and assist in the execution of a comprehensive programme for the registration of title of lands in the region as well as providing advisory services to public institutions to monitor lands to ensure conformity with approved planning schemes to avoid encroachments.

Mr. Osei Sarpong said so far Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions' committees have been inaugurated and that the remaining regions would be inaugurated before the end of year. Mr. Stephen Oduro Kwarteng is chairman of the committee, Mrs. Faustina Esi Andoh, secretary and Mr. Honset Abbey, Mr. A.A. Acheampong, Miss Suzane Fofie and Mr. Robert Ashun are members.

Alhaji Hamidu Ibrahim Baryeh, Executive Secretary of the Lands Commission inaugurating the committee, advised the committee members to follow procedures laid out in the Charter at the Clients' Service Unit to help raise the image of the Commission. He said bureaucracy was a bottleneck in the Civil Service and expressed the hope that it would be done away with to ensure quality services to the people on time.
