Ashanti Region remembers fallen servicemen and women

Mr Samuel Sarpong, Ashanti Regional Minister, on Tuesday paid tribute to Ghanaian ex-servicemen and women killed in wars and peacekeeping missions.

He laid a wreath at a solemn Remembrance Day service held at the Cenotaph in Kumasi.

Three other wreaths were also laid by the General Officer Commanding the Central Command, Brigadier-General Joseph Adu-Boampong, Baffour Asare Owusu Amankwatia V, Bantamahene, and ex-Warrant Officer II Agyemang Dankwah, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Veterans Administration of Ghana (VAG).

The event was also a commemoration of 100 years of World War 1.

Contingents from the Military, Police Service, Prisons, Fire, Immigration, the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority and VAG were on parade.

As the clock struck 1100 hours, the siren sounded and this was followed by the last post.

A moment of silence was then observed in honour of the fallen heroes and a reveille.

There was a reading of the Binyon Verses at the ceremony which began with traditional, Muslim and Christian prayers and the reading of the Bible by Mr Kojo Bonsu, Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive.
