Residents of Asankran-Moseaso near Asankragwa in the Western Region are complaining of heavy pollution in the Tano River due to activities of illegal miners.

The river which serves as a source of drinking water and irrigation for the farmers has now been laden with metallic deposits.

A Community Leader Anthony Ako tells Ultimate News, all efforts to stop the Galamsey operators have proven futile.

He is accusing a newly sworn in chief Nana Twumasi Abrakwa of allowing the mining companies to work along the banks of the Tano River.

The Assembly Member for the Moseaso Assembly area, Theresa Ussher stated that they are collaborating with the Chief to ensure that the river is protected from further pollution.

‘The Tano River has been heavily polluted by Galamsey operators, the river is so dirty cannot be used for anything, the chief confirmed that he personally gave the land to some two mining companies,’ she bemoaned
