Asafo market interchange will be opened to traffic in December

Kumasi, Sept 14, GNA - Sarroch Granulati Gelfi-JV, contractors working on the Asafo market interchange in Kumasi, has assured the Ashanti Regional Minister that the facility would be opened to traffic by the end of December.

Mr David Steiberger and Mr Ghonieur Mohammed, Project Manager and Site Engineer of the company respectively, gave the assurance when Mr Emmanuel Asamoah Owusu-Ansah, visited the site on Wednesday.

They said all the minor finishing touches to bring the interchange into shape would be completed in February next year. Mr Steiberger told the Regional Minister, who was accompanied by Madam Patricia Appiagyei, Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive and Mrs Elizabeth Agyemang, the Member of Parliament for Oforikrom, that they now have all the materials to complete the base of the interchange. "With the 150 workers and the two of us working everyday, we assure you that we would be able to complete the work as planned", Mohammed also said.

Mr Owusu-Ansah said he was impressed about the progress of work and expressed the hope that they would live up to expectation to complete the project by their targeted time. The Regional Minister later visited the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to inspect the project being executed by Consar Company Limited. Mr Samuel Ofori, Clerk of Works of the consultant, conducted him round.

Mr Owusu-Ansah toured the dressing rooms, toilet facilities, the gymnastics hall and other places and suggested the inclusion of car parks at the stretch of land behind the scoreboard in addition to the VIP car park.

The Regional Minister and his entourage also visited the City Hotel that is being rehabilitated by China State Construction Company. He held a meeting with the leaders of the 126 workers and called for cordial working relations between them and their employers to ensure early completion of the project.
