Asafo companies appeal for Aboakyer Police Operations Commander

Winneba, May 5, GNA - The two Asafo Companies at Winneba, the Tuafo and Dentsifo, have appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to appoint an Operational Commander for Saturday's Aboakyer festival of the Chiefs and people of the Effutu traditional Area to ensure peace. Speaking at a meeting in Winneba with the members of the two Asafo companies, Neenyi Kojo Beedu V, Chief of Kojo Beedu, said the appeal had become necessary because of what he alleged was the open bias of the Winneba District Police Commander and his personnel towards preparation for the festival.

He stated the District Commander and the Station Officer had taken sides and would pose a problem during the celebration. Neenyi Beedu appealed to the officers and men who would be detailed to maintain law and order to stay neutral and avoid interference. He said that the two Asafo companies would send their animals to the shrine for the rituals to be performed by the Priests and Priestesses since they have a covenant with the gods.

Neenyi Beedu pointed out that since the Effutus migrated from Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region to settle at Winneba animals, which they captured were sacrificed to the gods for good bumper catch of fish, abundance of food and for the avoidance of strange diseases. He called on Effutu citizens to throng Winneba on Saturday, to witness the festival to boost tourism.
