Artisans cleans Elmina Township

Elmina, Jan. 15, GNA - About 600 members of the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) District Artisans Association on Tuesday undertook a four-hour clean up exercise to beautify Elmina. The exercise, which forms part of preparations towards the 2008 African Cup of Nations tournament, was also supported by individuals from Elmina. A number of organisations including the district assembly, Kakum Rural Bank, Elmina Beach Resort and a number of guest houses provided logistics for the exercise. Led by Mr Abdulai Salifu, chairman of the association, the members de-silted gutters, swept ceremonial roads, beaches and removed piled garbage.

Addressing them after the exercise Mr Salifu thanked the members for coming out in their numbers to participate in the exercise. He said it would improve sanitation in the district to attract tourists to areas such as the Elmina castle, Dutch cemetery, Fort St Jago and the St Joseph Catholic Basilica museum. He appealed to concerned citizens of the area to provide the association with tools such as, wheel barrows shovels and rakes to enable it to embark on monthly clean-up exercises in Elmina.
