Articulated truck rams cattle, killing nine

Nogokpo, July 17, GNA - An articulated truck said to be speeding on Friday ran through a herd of cattle at Nogokpo, near Agbozume on the Aflao-Accra highway, killing nine of them and injuring one. Total cost of the dead cows was put at 50 million cedis. Ali Malam, one of the herdsmen in charge of the animals told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the spot of the accident that, he was herding the animals from Kaviato for grazing at the banks of the lagoon at Ativuta, also near Agbozume.

He said as he was directing the animals across the highway, with his three colleagues behind assisting, the truck emerged from the curve near Nogokpo on high speed towards their direction. Ali Malam said the driver ignored his gesture to flag him to slow down and went ahead to drive through the animals, while he (Malam) run to safety.

He said the driver came down and attempted to assault him but he escaped.

Sources close to the Agbozume Police, where the driver, Christian Aryee, reported the case said the cattle and truck owners had agreed to settle the case amicably.
