Armed Forces Northern Command Opens Maiden Jamboree

Kumasi, Dec. 13, GNA- A three-day event to provide social interaction and relaxation for the Northern Command of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has opened in Kumasi with a variety of drills and competitions. The three-day jamboree, the first of its kind involving the 4 Battalion Infantry (4BN) of Kumasi, 3 Battalion Infantry (2BN) of Sunyani and the 6 Battalion Infantry (6BN) as well as Air Borne Force (ABF) both of Tamale would see the armed men undertake activities such as Inter-unit drills, quiz and orienteering theory (map reading). Others include casualty evacuation procedures, foot ball and volley competitions.

The programme, an initiative of the GAF is aimed at providing entertainment and relaxation to the men after their regimented and tight work schedules. Brigadier General Joseph Narh Adinkrah, the General Officer Commander (GOC) of the Sector, addressing the gathering said, the programme, would also enable the soldiers to interact and strike acquaintances with other colleagues.

"We are so dispersed in the command that we hardly find time to meet socially to share jokes and fun", he stressed. Brigadier General Adinkrah urged the participants from all the four units to put up their best performances in the listed disciplines to lift up the names of their units.

The Commander also advised them to observe discipline in order to ensure a healthy competition and a good future for the jamboree. Lieutenant Colonel Alhassan Cosmas, the Command's Operations Officer in an interview with the Press explained that, the celebration would not only give room for the soldiers to interact but as well interact with the civilians to enhance healthy military-civilian rapport. In all, four contingents from the units entertained the gathering with superlative skills during their drills.
