Tomato drivers, taxi operators and plywood workers at Anloga Junction in the Oforikrom Municipality of the Ashanti Region have protested against what they describe as an attempt by a private developer to evict them from land they have occupied for more than 45 years.

The protesters say they have used the area as a base for their businesses and other commercial activities for decades.

They took to the streets after allegedly receiving an eviction notice from a private developer planning a development project on the land near the Oforikrom traffic area.

According to the protesters, several engagements involving the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly and the private developer have been held to resolve the dispute, but no agreement has yet been reached.

They have also questioned the authenticity of documents the developer presented as proof of ownership of the land.

The group is therefore demanding clarity on land ownership and due process before any eviction is carried out.

The chairman of the group, Obed Kwame Kataka, said the protesters were not opposed to government development projects but would resist any attempt by a private developer to take over the land.

The protesters said they were aware that the land belonged to the government and had been earmarked for a future interchange project.

"This land belongs to the government, and we are very aware. How did a private developer become an owner of government land that has been earmarked for an interchange project?" They questioned.

They insisted that if the government required them to vacate the land for the interchange or any other legitimate public project, they would be prepared to comply.

However, they maintained that they would not leave the land to make way for a private developer.
