The chiefs and elders of Amanase in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region are crying out for urgent government intervention as a collapsed bridge continues to wreak havoc on the lives of residents.
The bridge, which directly connects to the bustling Amanase market, has become a nightmare for market women, traders, schoolchildren, farmers, and drivers.
With its collapse, mothers carrying goods on their heads struggle dangerously to cross, children risk their safety daily just to get to school, and traders are stranded, unable to transport their goods. What once was a lifeline for the community has now turned into a deathtrap.
Amanasehene, Osabarima Etuobefom Asare Panin, described the situation as heartbreaking, revealing that the collapsed bridge has been left unattended for over two months, plunging the community into untold hardship.
He lamented that drivers now drop passengers at the edge of the collapsed bridge, forcing them to walk long distances to their destinations.
Worse still, some drivers exploit the situation, charging exorbitant fares, further worsening the already dire living conditions of residents.
“This bridge is not just concrete and iron; it is the heartbeat of our community. Its collapse has shattered our trading, crippled education, delayed healthcare, and broken the spirit of our people. Every day that passes without action puts lives at risk,” the chief said with deep concern.
The Amanasehene passionately appealed to government authorities and stakeholders to come to their rescue without delay.
“We are not asking for luxury, we are pleading for survival. Rebuild this bridge and restore dignity, safety, and hope to our people,” he urged.
