Amakom Catholic Church offers scholarship to accident victim

Kumasi, Oct. 20, GNA - The Amakom Saint Paul's Catholic Church in Kumasi has offered Master Ebenezer Daniel Otoo, a 10-year-old pupil of the Saint Paul's Catholic primary school, who had both legs amputated due to an accident, scholarship to the university level. On November 4, 2002, Master Otoo, who was returning from an errand around 1830 hours was knocked down by a vehicle at the Anloga Junction and had both legs crushed.

Both legs had to be amputated and fitted with artificial limbs. Announcing this at a thanksgiving mass at the Saint Paul's Catholic Church on Sunday, Mr Kofi Boamah, President of the Church, said the Church, on hearing of the accident, went to the aid of the victim. He said the Church had so far spent about 12 million cedis on the medical bills of Master Otoo, including the fitting of the artificial limbs, adding that besides taking care of his education, the Church will ensure that he was conveyed to school and back daily and provide a part-time teacher to give him extra tuition.

Mr Boamah said the package was part of the Church's social obligation to brilliant but needy children, including the handicapped to enable them to pursue their education to the highest level. Mr Francis Donald Otoo, father of the boy, expressed gratitude to the Church and all those who supported him and his wife when their son got injured.

He said his wife had been compelled to stop working so as to take care of their son and therefore, appealed to other church groups, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and philanthropists to come to their aid to enable them to take very good care of the boy.
