The 2025 edition of the Zongo Prominent Awards honoured Alhaji Issaka Nii Nertey Nettey, also known by his stool names Nii Adote Odaawulu I and Nii Doku III, with a special recognition award for his outstanding contributions and unwavering dedication to the progress of the Zongo community.

Alhaji Nettey, who serves as the Paramount Sempe Muslim Akwashongtse and Supreme Head of Gbese Sonmenaa, received a citation of honour applauding his tireless efforts in youth empowerment, community development, and leadership.

The citation praised his inspirational role at the ceremony, his mentorship of young change-makers, and his consistent commitment to nurturing future leaders while advancing initiatives that strengthen Zongo identity.

“On behalf of the organizers of the Zongo Prominent Awards, we present this citation as a token of appreciation for your continued efforts and dedication to the progress of the Zongo community. We are deeply appreciative of your inspiration to all attendees and for sharing our platform with the next generation of leaders,” the citation read in part.

The recognition celebrates not only Alhaji Nettey’s personal accomplishments but also his lifelong commitment to service. Well-wishers at the event offered prayers for blessings and success as he continues his work for family, faith, and community.

Born into modest circumstances, Alhaji Nettey began his education at Hijaz Preparatory School and later attended St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School, where he studied Business Management. Financial challenges interrupted his academic journey, compelling him to take on jobs as a painter, salesman, and freight forwarder in order to fund further studies.

His perseverance paid off in 2005 when he enrolled at the University of Ghana, Legon, graduating in 2009 with a degree in Political Science. While working as a clearing agent at the port, he pursued and obtained a Master’s degree in Ports and Shipping Management, aligning his academic training with professional practice.

Beyond his career in freight forwarding and port operations, Alhaji Nettey has built successful business interests in real estate and farming. A devoted family man, he balances personal commitments with active engagement in communal affairs and philanthropy.

Guided by the conviction that “service to mankind is service to God,” he continues to support people from diverse backgrounds through direct assistance, capacity-building initiatives, and community projects. His traditional honours, including the Hausa chieftaincy title Talba (“Noble King”), alongside his stool names Nii Adote Odaawulu I and Nii Doku III, reflect both family heritage and the community’s trust in his leadership.

His story, marked by resilience, humility, and tangible impact, resonates widely. Both community leaders and citizens commend him as a model of servant leadership.
