Akyem Asene youth protest MP's unfulfilled promises, demand immediate action

Correspondence from Eastern Region

Youth in Akyem Asene, located in the Asene-Manso-Akroso District of the Eastern Region, have staged a protest against their Member of Parliament (MP), George Kwame Aboagye, accusing him of neglect and failure to deliver on campaign promises dating back to 2016.

The demonstrators expressed frustration over the long-abandoned construction of a community library and an Astroturf pitch, projects that have reportedly remained incomplete for over 13 years.

Protesters also raised alarm over a deteriorating bridge in the area, which they say poses a serious risk to public safety.

“We have waited long enough. The bridge is a hazard, and the library and Astroturf are just wasting away,” one protester told reporters.

Dressed in red armbands and holding placards, the youth marched through the town, chanting slogans and calling on the MP to take urgent action.

They demanded that Aboagye prioritize the completion of the stalled projects and immediately address the structural issues of the collapsing bridge.

The protest reflects mounting dissatisfaction within the constituency over delays in infrastructure development and what residents see as a lack of accountability from their elected representative.
