Akrofuom gets new GH¢ 140,000.00 police barracks

A GH¢ 140,000.00 barracks built to provide decent accommodation for the police at Akrofoum in the Adansi South District has been inaugurated with a pledge by the Divisional Commander, to sustain the fight to keep the crime rate in the area on downward trend.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Afful Boakye-Yiadom said they were determined to go to every length to make things uncomfortable for people who had chosen to live outside the law.

He said security measures the Obuasi Police Division had put in place were paying off with the incidence of highway robbery on sharp decline.

They would continue to be vigilant and carry out effective foot and highway patrols to assure the people of their safety.

There is now a 24-hour police mobile patrol team stationed at Akrokerri to take care of the Obuasi-Dunkwa road corridor, which used to be notorious for highway robbery.

They are also maintaining strong presence and visibility on the Kyeaboso-Kusa Scarp and Hwiremoase-Fumso highways together with the New Edubiase-Oda and New Edubiase-Adansi-Praso roads.

ACP Boakye-Yiadom noted that crime generally in the area had gone down and said that would, however, not in any way make anybody complacent.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Benjamin Anhwere, said the decision by the assembly to fund the construction of the new barrack was to help tackle the severe accommodation problem faced by police officers posted to the place.

He also spoke of the construction of another police housing project at Sikaman, a predominantly cocoa growing community.

Nana Akwasi Annim II, Gyaasehene of the town, hailed the police for the good job they were doing.
