Akrofu gets medical and educational materials

Akrofu-Xeviwofe (V/R), May 30, GNA - Concern Christian Community-Ghana (CCC), a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), on Tuesday donated education materials and medical equipment including 120 blankets and five wheelchairs all value at about 280 million cedis to Akrofu, a farming community in the Ho Municipality.

The educational materials, which include bags, books, pens and pencils, were given to six brilliant but needy pupils from class one to JSS two.

The organisation gave 50 blankets to the aged in the community while the rest were offered to the community clinic for the comfort of the sick.

Mr Charles Agbeli, an opinion leader in the community and programme coordinator said the gesture was to improve academic performance and standard of living in the area. He stated that in that direction, the community was going to institute an annual award system to entice average pupils to learn harder.

Mr Agbeli listed a number of projects the community was about to benefit from including the renovation of the community clinic and new classroom blocks and called on members of the community to encourage and support people who were bringing those developments to the area. Mr Kofi Mensah, Ho Municipal Director of Education, in a speech read for him, noted that government alone could not develop education in the country and called on all stakeholders to help. 30 May 06
