Akatsi District receives 2.2 billion cedis of HIPC Fund

Akatsi (V/R), Aug 12, GNA - The Akatsi District Assembly has received 2.2 billion cedis of HIPC Funds this year to cater for health, education, sanitation and other related development projects. Some of the projects being undertaken included classroom blocks, nurses' quarters, boreholes and toilets.

The District Chief Executive, Mr Nicholas Kofi Negble said this at the Annual General Meeting of the Akatsi Teacher Training College Practice School's Parent/Teacher Association and School Management Committee (PTA/SMC) on Wednesday.

He said 240 million cedis out of the amount is being spent on three out of six classroom blocks earmarked to accommodate 134 primary school pupils of the Akatsi Teacher Training College Practice School next academic year.

The assembly had already spent over 130 million cedis of its District Assembly Common Fund to complete a second stream of the Practice Junior Secondary School on which the PTA had spent 30 million cedis. Mr Negble urged the parents not to rest on their oars in helping to provide infrastructure to enhance teaching and learning.

On academic performance, the Headmistress, Madam Beatrice Sosu-Kumassah said the school excelled in last year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), recording 90 per cent.

She appealed to the District Assembly and other benevolent organisations to assist the PTA complete the remaining three classroom blocks.
