Airtel Ghana commissions classroom block for Dubila Prim. Sch.

Airtel Ghana, best CSR company for Education and Community Relations has commissioned and handed over a state of the arts reconstructed and a furnished 3-unit classroom block to the management of the Dubila Primary School in the Bolgatanga Municipality.

The project, funded under Airtel Ghana’s flagship CSR initiative, Touching Lives involved a complete reconstruction of the dilapidated school building that posed danger to the pupils and teachers of the school.

The commissioning was attended by the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East Constituency and Deputy Attorney General, Hon. Dr. Dominic Ayine, the Regional Minister, Hon. Albert Abongo, traditional leaders of Dubila, pupils, parents and teachers from the school.

Hannah Agbozo, Legal & Corporate Affairs Director at Airtel Ghana, Kwame Osafo-Amoah, Airtel Zonal Business Manager- Northern Ghana and Hon. Dominic Ayine were joined by the Chief of Dubila and the Regional Minister to commission the befitting edifice that will shelter and groom hundreds of pupils from the Dubila Township and its environs. The State of the art facility comprises a 3 unit classroom block and offices for the teaching staff. .

Airtel Ghana committed to fund the project when Hon. Dominic Ayine, MP for the area solicited for the ChangeMaker company’s support for the school through the Airtel Touching Lives initiative.

The telecom company in addition distributed school uniforms, bags and stationery to over 250 students present at the ceremony to augment the student’s interests in education.

In her address at the ceremony, Hannah Agbozo said: “We are delighted that this project has been completed and we have no doubt that it will contribute to shaping the lives and the future of our children in Dubila and its environs. As a company that firmly believes that every individual has an innate ability to fully realise their potential, we have been investing in education – adopting schools, building many and creating an enabling environment for effective teaching and learning.”

“We believe education is not only a fundamental human right, it is also an empowerment tool and the best investment we can make in the lives of our children and the future of our country and continent. This is why investing in education is one of the cardinal pillars in our CSR strategy at Airtel Ghana”. Hon. Dr. Dominic Ayine, Member of Parliament for the Constituency and Deputy Attorney General remarked, “The benefits of this project to the pupils and the community are immeasurable. Airtel Ghana has through this investment created the opportunity that will enhance the development of the children in this community. On behalf of this community, I extend my profound gratitude to Airtel Ghana and its employees for the commitment they have shown in putting up this facility”.

“Education is very important in today’s society and these children deserve the same chance as any other child in this country, they deserve to remember their school days with joy and not with relief that they escaped with their lives,” he explained.

Airtel Ghana has gained recognition for its meritorious role in the promotion and improvement of education and infrastructural developments across the country as the Best CSR Company of the Year for Education by Ghana CR Excellence Awards. The company’s flagship CSR programme- Airtel Touching Lives has also won CIMG TV Programme of the Year, IPR Best Community Programme of the Year on three consecutive occasions and Bharti Change Marker Award (Gold Category) in 2014 and 2015.
