Aikins confirmed as Oguaa MCE

Cape Coast, April 24, GNA - Mr Anthony Egyir Aikins, 53, an internal auditor of the Ministry of Health, was on Friday confirmed as the Metropolitan Chief Executive for Cape Coast when he polled an unprecedented 100% during voting for his confirmation. For the first time in the political history of the assembly, which has been noted for its high partisan considerations during such occasions and always turned down Presidential nominees, Mr Aikins polled all the 57 votes.

According to some members of the public the GNA interviewed afterwards, his confirmation had been easier due to his "sterling qualities".

Earlier the spontaneous applause that greeted his introduction coupled with the fact that almost all the members of the assembly were clad in white was clear indication of the full support and approval of the assembly for him.

The election was conducted by the Electoral Commission. The Presiding Member of the Assembly, Nana Kweku Awuku, congratulated the MCE for the victory and wished him well. Mr Aikins thanked President John Atta Mills for the honour done him, as well as the assembly members, chiefs and the people of Cape Coast for the confidence reposed in him and pledged not to disappoint them.

He promised to work hard in transparency and honesty and appealed to all to unite and to support him to collectively propel the development of Cape Coast forward. The Central Regional Minister, Madam Ama Benyiwa Doe, urged him to brace himself up for the "challenging task ahead", stay focused and live above reproach.
