Prince Oppong, the Presiding Member of the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly, is demonstrating a strong commitment to community development by donating his Assembly Member allowances to support vital social interventions in his electoral area.
Oppong has dedicated his allowances from the first two months of his term to extend the water supply to a Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) facility at St. Peter's School in Wioso.
The facility was originally constructed by Women's Health to Wealth, but lacked a reliable water connection. Oppong's donation ensures that pupils and staff now have access to clean water at the facility.
He stated that the initiative was driven by his desire to prioritize the welfare of students and enhance the quality of education through improved infrastructure.
In addition to the water project, Oppong has launched a sanitation initiative in Wioso aimed at improving the town's cleanliness. He has employed three local residents to sweep the main street of Wioso and has committed to paying their wages using his future Assembly Member allowances.
To facilitate their work, Oppong also donated brooms, rakes, and wheelbarrows to the sanitation workers.
"As leaders, we must always think of the community first," Oppong said.
"The little resources we have can make a big difference if used for the right purpose. Leadership is not only about occupying a position but also about making sacrifices to meet the pressing needs of the people.”
Residents of Wioso and the St. Peter's School community have praised Hon. Oppong's actions, describing them as an example of selfless leadership. They hope his actions will inspire other leaders to follow suit.
Oppong has pledged to continue prioritizing projects that directly improve the lives of his constituents, particularly in the areas of education, water access, and sanitation.
