The Sissala East Municipal Assembly has presented 13 Galaxy Motorbikes to the Municipal office of the Department of Agriculture for distribution to agricultural extension agents to improve service delivery to smallholder farmers.

The motorbikes are expected to facilitate transportation of the extension service workers to reach out to farmers’ and educate them on best agricultural practices for enhanced production towards food security in the Sissala East Municipality.

Mr Clement Kawuribe, the Sissala East Municipal Director of Department of Agriculture under the Ministry of Food and Agriculture told the GNA that the move would bolster the agriculture extension agents to double their visits to farmers.

“It is going to boost our work on the field, lack of motorbikes had hindered fieldwork visits,” he said.

He said they would now increase home and farm visits to educate farmers for enhanced agricultural production and productivity in Sissala East.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Karim Nanyua, urged the extension agents to handle the motorbikes with care for it to last longer for the purpose for which it was procured.
