Agona District Health Insurance board inaugurated

Agona Swedru, Feb 18, GNA - An 11-member Board of the Agona District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme (ADMHIS) has been inaugurated, at Agona Swedru.

The Board with Nana Kojo Frempong as Chairman has Nana Odiako Bonsu, Mr Idris Musah Sory, Nana Kojo Amoakwa Boadu V, Mr George Kofi Gyimah and Mr Joseph Brown as members. The other members are Mrs Veronica A. Donkoh, Mr Samuel Amoh-Mensah, Ms Angelina Bolton, Mr G B L Siilo and the Very Reverend Abeka Wilson.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr John Kwesi Agyabeng, Acting District Chief Executive, called on them to use their expertise to make the scheme successful to ensure quality health-care for the people. Mr Agyabeng who is also MP for Agona East said the government would support the scheme to make health delivery accessible to the people especially the poor.

He expressed regrets that people in urban areas were not paying their contribution towards the scheme and said rather people in rural areas had accepted the scheme and were paying their premium of six thousand cedis a month.

The Acting DCE said the scheme would take of in March 2005 by which time all the targeted groups would have finished paying their contributions.

Mr Agyabeng noted that one major obstacle facing the administration of the scheme was lack of transport and other facilities and said only 30 out of the 55 communities in the district had registered. Nana Kojo Frempong called for co-operation and teamwork among the members to make their work easy for the people to enjoy better health care.

He assured the District Assembly that they would work hard to enable the people especially the poor and vulnerable to have access to quality healthcare. 18 Feb 05
