Agona District Assembly improves health delivery system

Agona Swedru (C/R), Aug 15, GNA- The Agona District Assembly is putting up nurses' quarters at a cost of 112 million cedis from its share of the HIPC fund.

The assembly, in consultation with the Ministry of Health, has completed the construction of a female ward abandoned eight years ago. Mr John Kwesi Agyabeng, District Chief Executive for Agona, said this when he inspected two nurses' quarters under construction at the Agona Swedru Government Hospital on Thursday.

He said the assembly has bought a flat costing 70 million cedis from the Social Security and National Insurance Trust for nurses in the district.

The assembly has footed medical bills of three pregnant women and three men who were operated on at the cost of 4.5million at Swedru Government Hospital, Swedru Alhmadiyya Muslim Hospital and Breman Asikuma Catholic Hospital.

The three women who delivered at the Swedru Government Hospital could not settle their medical bills and were detained by the hospital authorities.

Mr Agyabeng said the district assembly has upgraded the Agona Nsaba clinic to a Health Post following improvement of its facilities. He said Ghana government and the European Union as well as the Agona District Assembly have jointly constructed a clinic and provided nurses quarters at Otenkorang near Agona Nyakrom.
