Agona Assembly to pay ex-gratia to members

Agona Swedru, Dec 23, GNA - The Agona District Assembly is to pay two million cedis each to Assembly members as an ex-gratia award when their term expires next year.

Mr Ben Mensah, District Chief |Executive (DCE), who announced this at the ordinary third meeting of the Assembly, said the executive committee at its last meeting agreed to award each member 2 million cedis.

He stated that the figure would stay until the government gives guidelines on the issue.

"Our ability to pay that amount will also be dependent on the position of our internal generated fund" he said. He charged the staff and every body connected with the generation of money into the account not only to re-double their efforts and be honest for the overall interest of the assembly and development of the district.

"My agenda is to develop Agona and leave it in a better state than I came to meet it as DCE and I believe together with my two Members of Parliament we shall succeed" he said . He appealed to people who indulged in gossip and characters assassination to stop because people would eventually find out the truth.

The DCE expressed concern about the haphazard and uncoordinated physical development, which had become a common feature in the district. Mr. Mensah said sanitation was a major problem, adding that, reports from health institutions indicated high cases of typhoid fever. Alhaji Osuma Abeka, Presiding Member of the Assembly, urged the Assembly Members to continue to work hard.
