Agogo shooting victim missing

A 26-year-old man allegedly shot by police in Agogo two days ago, has gone missing.

His family has accused the police of hiding the injured man.

The victim’s family has maintained the police shot at his thigh. But Agogo District Police Commander ASP Asamoah Agyekum has denied the claim.

In an earlier interview with Class FM, ASP Agyekum said, “there has not been any gunshot at Agogo.”

He said Kofi Asadu was being pursued for arrest when he scaled a wall and fractured his right leg.

In his opinion, the gunshot allegation is a cooked up story to conceal what really happened.

“There is no way that, as a policeman, a gun will be fired and I will have to cover it because definitely investigations will show that a gun has been fired,” he added.

On Wednesday, he told Class News the victim had been transferred to the Koforidua Government Hospital.

Meanwhile, Class News checks suggest otherwise. Class FM’s Eastern Regional correspondent Mark Anthony reported on Thursday that his search for the victim at the Koforidua Government Hospital and the Saint Joseph’s Hospital drew blanks.

According to him, both hospitals said no such patient had been transferred from Agogo to their centres for health care.

But ASP Agyekum insists it is on their record as told them by the Agogo hospital authorities that Kofi Asadu has been transferred to the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Koforidua.

The Agogo District Police Commander, however, revealed he had placed a call earlier for someone to check up on the victim at the St. Joseph’s Hospital but the person could not find Asadu there.

According to him, he has managed to get the contact number of the ambulance driver, who drove the victim from Agogo to Koforidua and was yet to contact him for the whereabouts of the victim.

He said the transfer of the victim has nothing to do with the police.

Meanwhile, father of the victim, Opanin Osei Kwadwo, has said he was not notified of the decision to transfer his son to the Eastern Region.
