Agogo residents suspend demo against Fulani herdsmen

Residents of Agogo in the Ashanti region have postponed a planned demonstration against the activities of Fulani herdsmen in the area.

It follows an appeal by the police there who say the protest could add to the rising tensions.

The residents’ demonstration has been sparked by recent deaths in the community, blamed on the herdsmen.

According to them, one person has been killed and another allegedly shot by Fulani herdsmen in just two weeks.

The police are scheduled to meet with the residents Wednesday afternoon over an earlier threat to defy the police directive.

Ahead of the meeting, spokesperson for the Agogo Residents Association, Kingsley Obeng told Joy News they appreciate the police caution, but will not completely abandon their plans.

He said depending on the outcome of the meeting with the police, the demonstration will come off Friday.

Meanwhile, the Agogo District Police Commander, DSP Nana Yawson told Joy News he will only comment on the developments after meeting with the residents.
