Aged to benefit from MMT services

Mr Fusseini Salifu, Upper East Regional Depot Manager of Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMT) on Tuesday said the aged in the region would soon benefit from free transport services from the MMT.

Mr Salifu said this would take effect by end of 2014 as part of MMT’s corporate social responsibility to provide free transport services to some members of the public.

Mr Salifu said the effort was a new strategic direction of the company and that would be extended to the Upper East Region to augment services already provided including that for basic school children.

He said though services for basic school children in the region had dwindled over the years, a total of 177 pupils from Bongo and Sandema in Builsa Districts benefitted from the services in the second quarter of 2014 and hoped that the trend would see a boost when schools reopen.

Mr Salifu was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Bolgatanga and said MMT focused on passenger satisfaction and that new buses were expected to improve delivery of services in the Upper East Region.

Mr Salifu said broken down buses were also being rehabilitated to boost already operational buses in the region.

On customer care and safety of MMT busses the manager allayed fears of members of the public and encouraged all to travel on metro buses because they were safe.

He said education was also on-going on buses to educate travelers on environmental cleanliness and the need for passengers travelling on MMT to avoid throwing litter from busses on to roads.

He, however, indicated that the company was all ears to receive concerns and suggestions on how to improve delivery of service.

He encouraged all to make use of the MMT toll free lines and said suggestion boxes would be available at vantage areas of bus terminals for management to receive and respond to concerns.
