Samuel Kena, the Kwahu Afram Plains North District Chief Executive, has said a modern slaughter house will be constructed at Adiemmra to create a safe and conducive environment for butchers in the area.

At the Assembly's third ordinary meeting held at Donkorkrom in the KwahuAfram Plains North District of the Eastern Region, he said there was the need to pull down the old slaughter house because it was dilapidated and has become a death trap to the workers.

He said it was the government's priority to ensure that citizens in the country enjoy healthy food, hence the project.

He therefore tasked the butchers to get animals well examined by the veterinary and the sanitation officers before they slaughter them to avoid any outbreak of diseases.

Mr Kena urged drivers, who transported the meat to near-by communities, to cover them to avoid exposing the meat to airborne diseases.

He said the project would be financed with funds from the District Performance Assessment Tool (DPAT), adding that work plans and budget that would cover the project had already been submitted and work would soon begin.

He therefore entreated Assembly members in the areas to monitor and support the contractor for quality work when the project commenced.
