Afigya-Kwabre assembly fetes senior citizens

Nkwantakese (Ash), July 1, GNA - The Afigya-Kwabre District Assembly on Friday feted senior citizens in the area as the nation marked the 51st republic day.

The old men and women were presented with gifts and treated to food and drinks amidst the rendition of traditional highlife tunes.

Mr Kwaku Oppong-Kyekyeku Kaakyire, District Chief Executive, said they deserved credit and honour for the hard work, dedicated service, selflessness and sacrifices that had brought Ghana this far.

"The nation would eternally remain grateful to them, 93he said. He encouraged the youth to be inspired by the spirit of patriotism and work hard to build on the strong foundation they laid. Mr Kaakyire underlined the need for the society to accord respect to the pensioners.

Nana Yaw Boakye Ababio, Chief of Nkwantakese, said senior citizens should not be celebrated only during occasions but needed to be supported to live in dignity.

Some of the elderly people, who spoke at the function, counselled the youth to uphold the values of integrity and self-discipline.
