Afenyo-Markin commissions Richard C Ekem library with 100-seat ICT centre in Effutu

A new Richard C Ekem Library and ICT Centre has been commissioned in the Effutu Municipality by the Member of Parliament for Effutu and Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, to promote digital learning and improve access to education.

The new facility increases the total number of facilities he has built in the constituency to 19.

The complex includes a 100-seat ICT centre, a 150-seat conference hall, and private reading areas to support research, training and academic work.

At the commissioning ceremony on December 15, 2025, Afenyo-Markin cautioned users to avoid abusing the ICT centre, especially for internet fraud and other illicit activities.

He encouraged beneficiaries to use the facility responsibly to build skills and support education.

He said the centre was intended to nurture the next generation of ethical tech leaders, but warned against the misuse of technology.

He stressed that parents, teachers and community leaders all have a role to play in guiding young people to see technology as a tool for innovation rather than crime, adding that the library should produce drivers of development, not perpetrators of fraud.

“Its mission is to plant the seed that will germinate into Ghana’s next generation of tech titans and ethical innovators. As we open this door to limitless possibilities, we must also sound a warning. We must guard against dark temptation to misuse this powerful technology.

“We all have a duty as parents, teachers, and elders to ensure that our brilliant young minds see technology as a tool for creation and not crime. Let it be said that from this Library emerged architects of progress and not authors of fraud,” he warned.

In March 2025, The Minority Leader commissioned a 6-unit classroom block for the pupils of Effutu AME Zion ABC JHS.

For years, pupils of Effutu AME Zion ABC JHS had been studying in a dilapidated and unsafe building until the school authorities appealed to the MP for support to save lives and protect property.
